A three-year-old girl tragically lost her life after being left locked inside a car for several hours at Seshego Hospital in Limpopo on Monday.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the child’s mother, who is employed at the hospital, allegedly forgot her daughter inside a blue Toyota Corolla Cross after arriving for work around 07:00. The child was discovered unresponsive at approximately 15:10 and was later pronounced dead by a doctor, who confirmed she had succumbed to heat and lack of oxygen.
Police have opened a case of culpable homicide at the Seshego Police Station.
“A forensic post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, while police investigations continue,” said Ledwaba.
The incident has left the local community in shock, with authorities urging parents and caregivers to remain vigilant to prevent similar tragedies.
