The TRC Cases Inquiry sitting in Pretoria is set to hear testimony from former Acting National Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr Silas Ramaite, on Monday.

Ramaite served as Deputy NDPP for 15 years before being appointed in an acting capacity by President Cyril Ramaphosa in August 2018.

His name surfaced during last week’s proceedings in relation to claims that former president Thabo Mbeki allegedly prevented the arrest of suspects linked to the poisoning of anti-apartheid activist Reverend Frank Chikane.

Author Ole Bubenzer testified that the alleged interference occurred during the tenure of then-NDPP Bulelani Ngcuka. However, Chief Evidence Leader Advocate Ishmael Semenya disputed this account, stating that the allegation dates back to November 2004, when Ramaite was serving in office.
