Soshanguve Recovers as Tshwane’s Water System Rebounds

The City of Tshwane has reported encouraging signs of recovery in its latest water supply update, confirming that the metro’s overall system remains healthy and largely stable despite isolated pressure challenges in certain areas.

According to the update issued on 16 February 2026, sustained improvement has been observed across most reservoirs and supply zones, with the network performing within acceptable levels. In Region 1, the Mabopane Main Reservoir has recorded a slight decline but remains within safe operating levels, although still below 50%. The Mabopane Central Reservoir is stable, while the Mabopane Reservoir continues to sit at critically low levels and is being closely monitored.

There is positive news for residents in Soshanguve, where the Soshanguve L Reservoir has fully recovered. Areas supplied directly from the reservoir, including those connected through the Soshanguve L Tower, are receiving water. Soshanguve DD also remains stable.

In Regions 3 and 4, all reservoirs are stable, with none currently at critical levels — a development that reflects a strong recovery trend and improved system balance across the metro.

Despite the overall improvement, the City is urging residents to continue using water sparingly to help maintain stability and support recovery efforts, particularly in constrained areas. Operational focus remains on Region 1, especially the Kruisfontein and Mabopane reservoirs, which are under continuous monitoring.
