Six Teenagers Injured in Suspected Gang-Related Shooting in Westbury

Six teenagers, aged 15 and 16, were hospitalised following a shooting in Westbury, west of Johannesburg, on Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Styler Road and Krezschmar Street. The injured youths were rushed to Helen Joseph Hospital, and authorities remain on the scene investigating the circumstances.

“Police are assessing the situation but cannot provide further details at this stage,” a spokesperson said.

While the official motive is still under investigation, preliminary reports suggest the shooting is linked to ongoing gang-related activity in the area.

Traffic in the vicinity has been temporarily diverted, and motorists are advised to avoid the affected routes.

The incident has sparked renewed concern among community members over rising youth violence. Locals are calling for an increased police presence and targeted intervention programs to curb gang activity.

“Incidents like this are alarming and highlight the need for urgent action to protect our young people,” one resident said.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
