Residents of Tshwane Are Experiencing Water Shortages

The City of Tshwane has reported that high household water usage is placing severe strain on its water supply system. Areas such as Hammanskraal West, Mamelodi Extension 10, Irene, Danville, and Soshanguve South have been identified as major contributors to the increase.

Spokesperson Selby Bokaba says the average household consumption has risen above 30 kilolitres since December, which threatens the stability of the entire network. He warns that if usage is not reduced, widespread water outages could occur. Bokaba urges residents to check their properties for leaks, as hidden leaks can waste thousands of litres of water.

Residents of Hammanskraal say the ongoing water crisis over the weekend has hit them financially, forcing them to spend money they had not budgeted for to buy water. The crisis has been caused by the failed Rooiwal wastewater treatment plant polluting the Apies River and insufficient water infrastructure in the area. Frustrated residents are calling for urgent intervention to resolve the situation.
