President Cyril Ramaphosa has paid solemn tribute to the late Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa, praising him for his pivotal role in facilitating deeper relations between South Africa and France. The president described Mthethwa’s sudden passing as “a moment of deep grief” for the nation.
The tribute comes as French authorities launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the ambassador’s death, after he plunged from the 22nd floor of a Paris hotel. Mthethwa, 58, was a seasoned political figure who served in the Cabinet for 15 years, leading the Police and later the Sports, Arts, and Culture portfolios before his diplomatic posting, bringing a wealth of experience to his role on the international stage.
