Pressure Mounts as Sibiya and Mogotsi Testify in Separate Probes

North West businessman Brown Mogotsi has once again insisted that he served as a Crime Intelligence Agent (CIA), telling Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee that he stands by his role despite it being disputed within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Mogotsi appeared before the committee probing allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system. Although he had initially requested to appear virtually due to safety concerns, he ultimately chose to testify in person and has been scheduled for a single day on the committee’s programme. He also explained why he believes his alleged work as a CIA has been questioned by members of the SAPS division.

Meanwhile, suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya continues to face scrutiny before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria. Sibiya has been challenged over his knowledge of alleged criminal cartel kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, particularly regarding Matlala’s presence at his son’s party in September 2024.

During testimony, evidence leader Advocate Adila Hassim questioned inconsistencies in Sibiya’s statements about whether he was aware of Matlala’s attendance at the celebration held at his home.

The parallel appearances have intensified focus on alleged links between elements within law enforcement and individuals accused of criminal activity, as Parliament and the commission continue their investigations.
