Residents in Olivenhoutbosch and surrounding areas can expect a gradual return of electricity supply after the City of Tshwane confirmed that transformers at the Olivenhoutbosch Substation have been successfully energised.
In a statement issued on Monday, the City said switching operations would commence today, although the process will be carried out in phases to ensure stability and safety across the network.
The power outage followed a fire that broke out at the substation last week. According to the municipality, the blaze was caused by an act of vandalism, which resulted in extensive damage to critical infrastructure at the facility. Emergency teams were deployed at the time to contain the fire and assess the extent of the destruction.
City of Tshwane officials indicated that restoration work is currently underway, with technical teams working around the clock to stabilise the system and prevent further disruptions. The phased restoration approach is intended to minimise the risk of overloading the network as power is gradually reintroduced to affected areas.
The incident has sparked frustration among residents, many of whom have been without electricity for several days. Some social media users have expressed concern over the lack of a detailed restoration schedule, while others have voiced scepticism based on previous prolonged outages.
