Residents across the City of Tshwane can expect a gradual return of water supply following the recovery of the Palmiet system, which is now fully operational after a recent shutdown. Rand Water has confirmed that full pumping has resumed, marking a major milestone in restoring water to affected communities.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the City of Tshwane said while the system is no longer offline, residents should remain patient as municipal infrastructure takes time to stabilise. Reservoirs do not refill instantly, and several water networks still need to be fully pressurised before normal supply levels are achieved.
High-lying areas and other sensitive zones are expected to experience slower restoration. Encouraging progress has been recorded at the Reeds and Lotus reservoir systems, which have shown steady improvement. However, the Laudium, Atteridgeville High Level and Pretoriusrand reservoirs have yet to show significant recovery and remain under close, continuous monitoring by technical teams.
In Soshanguve, targeted technical interventions at the Soshanguve L reservoir have started yielding positive results. Pumping to the tower zone is currently underway, and the city says the system in the area is steadily moving towards stability. Ongoing monitoring has been put in place to ensure the gains are maintained.
City officials have reassured residents that regular updates will be shared as the recovery process continues and the system normalises. The municipality has also thanked customers for their patience and cooperation during the disruption.
