Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital has boosted its specialised healthcare services with new advanced medical equipment unveiled by Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko.
The hospital received a new heart-lung machine, a revamped angiography suite and a modern angiogram system all aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening cardiac and vascular conditions.
As one of South Africa’s largest referral hospitals, these upgrades are expected to reduce waiting times and bring critical services closer to communities across Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the Northwest.
The heart-lung machine will support both adult and paediatric open-heart surgeries, while the enhanced angiography suite will allow minimally invasive procedures for strokes, aneurysms and blocked arteries.
Nkomo-Ralehoko said the investment is part of the province’s commitment to modernising healthcare and improving patient outcomes, especially in underserved areas. She also emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships in strengthening the health system.
“These machines are investments in lives and in the future of healthcare in Gauteng,” she said.
