South African singer Naledi Aphiwe has reportedly lost her entire music catalogue on YouTube after her official Artist Channel was removed from the platform without her authorisation.
According to a statement from Naledi Music Group, the removal happened almost two weeks ago, just weeks before the release of the artist’s upcoming EP. Despite efforts by Naledi and her team to have the channel restored, her catalogue has not yet returned to the platform.
The removed catalogue had accumulated more than 120 million views and included music videos, audio visualisers and other content that played a significant role in Naledi’s career. The statement says the channel was also an important connection between the artist and millions of listeners around the world.
Naledi Music Group is calling on her supporters, known as the Starlites, as well as the media and wider music industry, to support the singer as she moves forward. “While circumstances beyond the artist’s control may have disrupted access to her past work, they will not determine the direction of her future,” the group said.
The independent artist has since launched a new official YouTube channel, where her upcoming EP and future projects will be housed as she continues to build and take ownership of her music career.
