LADY ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF EXPLOSIVES IN ATTERIDGEVILLE

On Saturday, 29 November 2025, at about 09:00, members of the SAPS in Atteridgeville were carrying out routine crime prevention patrols along the R511 when they observed a suspicious Mercedes-Benz Sprinter travelling towards Hartbeespoortdam.

The officers stopped the vehicle and approached it with caution. The occupants were asked to step out with their luggage so that it could be inspected.

During the search, officers found several explosives and explosive components inside the bag of a female passenger. She could not give a valid reason for having the items in her possession and was arrested immediately.

The SAPS Bomb Disposal Unit was called to the scene and safely secured and removed the explosives.

A case docket has been registered, and investigations are continuing to determine where the explosives came from and where they were intended to be taken.

The suspect has been officially charged with the illegal possession of explosives.

Major General Samuel Thine praised the officers for their alertness and quick response, stating that their vigilance played an important role in protecting the public.
