Parents and guardians in Gauteng have less than 24 hours to submit applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 placement for the 2027 academic year, with the online admissions period closing at midnight on Friday, 4 September 2026.
The Gauteng Department of Education has urged parents who have not yet applied to do so as soon as possible, while those who have already started the process have been reminded to complete all the required steps before the system closes.
The 2027 online admissions process opened on 5 August 2026 and allows parents to apply to a maximum of five schools. The department advises parents to select the Home application option at least once, particularly for schools whose feeder zones cover their home address.
Parents are also reminded that supporting documents must be submitted or uploaded. According to the department, documents should be submitted to all schools applied to within seven days of making the application.
“Parents now have LESS THAN 24 HOURS to apply and complete their applications for Grade 1 & Grade 8 placement at a Gauteng public school for the 2027 academic year,” the department said in a reminder to parents.
For those who require assistance, decentralised walk-in centres are available across the province, with officials assisting parents from 08:00 to 16:00. Applications can also be completed using a cellphone.
Parents who miss the current application window may still have an opportunity to submit late applications from 4 December 2026 to 31 January 2027, but these will be for schools where space is still available.
The department has therefore encouraged parents not to wait until the final hours and to ensure that their applications are fully completed before the deadline.
