Floyd Shivambu Says EFF Leaders Preached Against Tenders While Allegedly Facilitating Them Behind Closed Doors

Floyd Shivambu, former EFF deputy president and current president of the Afrika Mayibuye Movement, has levelled explosive allegations against his former colleagues, claiming that EFF leaders publicly preached against the tender system while privately facilitating such deals.

Speaking on the Frank Dialogue podcast with JJ Tabane, Shivambu described how some individuals he once worked with displayed an “inclination to wrongdoing, particularly wrongdoing in relation to tenders.” He recounted a disconnect between the party’s public rhetoric and the private conduct of some leaders.

“They would stand on platforms and condemn tenders as instruments of corruption, but behind closed doors, there was an inclination to wrongdoing,” he said, without naming specific individuals.

The allegations are likely to intensify scrutiny of the EFF’s internal governance as the party prepares for the 2026 local government elections. The EFF has not yet issued a formal response.

For Shivambu, the interview continues his effort to distance himself from his former party and establish his new movement as a credible alternative. For the EFF, the claims pose a reputational challenge that could undermine its anti-corruption credentials—central to its appeal to voters.
