MEC Sifuba Welcomes Banyana Banyana to Free State, Calls for Toyota Stadium to Be Filled

Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Ntombizanele Sifuba has officially welcomed Banyana Banyana to the province ahead of their Olympic qualifying clash, calling on supporters to fill Toyota Stadium for the second leg of their tie against Madagascar.

Sifuba expressed pride in hosting the national women’s team and emphasised the importance of strong home support. “Banyana Banyana are our national treasures, and they deserve a stadium filled with supporters cheering them on,” she said. “This is our opportunity as the Free State to show the rest of the country that we are a home of champions.”

The MEC urged fans from across the province to turn out in numbers, noting that a vibrant atmosphere would boost the players’ morale and showcase Bloemfontein’s capacity to host major events. She highlighted the economic benefits of match-day tourism, including activity in hospitality and retail.

Sifuba praised the team’s achievements, including their 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph, and encouraged young girls to draw inspiration from the players.

Tickets are expected to be affordable, with the provincial government and SAFA working to ensure accessibility. As the countdown begins, the call is clear: come out and support Banyana Banyana as they chase Olympic glory.
