The City of Tshwane is calling on its employees and residents to take a stand against gender-based violence by wearing black on Friday, 18 September.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to stand in solidarity with victims following the recent killings of women in and around Ekurhuleni, which have sparked concern and renewed calls for action against gender-based violence.
The City says wearing black will serve as a visible stand against the scourge and as a tribute to women who have lost their lives to GBV.
Employees have also been urged to observe nine minutes of silence at 12 noon on Friday. The moment can be observed individually or with colleagues in suitable areas such as offices and foyers, as they remember the victims and reaffirm their commitment to change.
“Tomorrow, we wear black in solidarity with women who have lost their lives to gender-based violence. Join us at 12:00 for nine minutes of silence as we honour their lives and stand united against GBV,” the City said.
