Former SABC Sports presenter and music rights activist Owen Ndlovu has been found dead after being hijacked and kidnapped in Katlehong on Gauteng’s East Rand.
His family confirmed his death in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, 16 September 2026. According to police, the incident happened on Tuesday night, 15 September, at approximately 20:00 while Ndlovu was fetching his wife from a church service in Katlehong.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said three unknown men, one reportedly armed with a firearm, approached the couple. As his wife approached their vehicle, the men pushed her aside and forced Ndlovu into the back seat of his Ford Raptor bakkie and drove off with him.
The Ford Raptor was later recovered abandoned in Walkerville. Ndlovu’s body was found by residents in Thokoza on Wednesday morning, dumped next to the road. Family spokesperson Eugene Mthethwa said the 54-year-old had sustained gunshot wounds and his bag was found a few metres from where his body was discovered. His wife, Portia Ndlovu, identified his body at the mortuary.
In their statement, the family said they are awaiting further information from the relevant authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding Owen’s death and appealed to the public and the media to respect their privacy as they come to terms with this devastating loss.
Police say a postmortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death and a manhunt has been launched for the three suspects.
