City of Tshwane Announces Extended Power Shutdown in Parts of Rosslyn

The City of Tshwane has issued a media alert confirming a planned power shutdown that will affect residential and industrial areas in Rosslyn. The interruption, initially scheduled as two separate 12-hour outages, has now been extended to a continuous 40-hour shutdown due to the complexity and safety requirements of the work.

According to the city’s Energy and Electricity Business Unit, power supply to the 132/11kV K3 Substation in Rosslyn will be shut down from 08:00 on 21 March 2026 until midnight on 22 March 2026. The revised plan replaces the earlier schedule of 12-hour outages on each day.

“Due to the complexity and safety requirements of the work, the city was compelled to change the planned 12 hours on each day to a 40-hour shutdown,” read the statement.

The shutdown will impact several areas, including Nkwe Estates, Rosslyn Gardens, Automotive Supply Park, and the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC). During this period, technicians will carry out installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical components at the substation.

City officials stated that the work is part of ongoing efforts to improve the long-term safety and reliability of electricity infrastructure in the Rosslyn Industrial Area. Residents and businesses are advised to always treat all electricity supply points as live and to report outages through the city’s customer care channels.

The municipality has apologised for any inconvenience caused and encouraged consumers to contact the customer care centre or use SMS services to report issues during the shutdown.
