A multidisciplinary crime prevention operation conducted across the Mamelodi and Silverton policing precincts has resulted in the arrest of 383 suspects for various offences, as law enforcement agencies intensified efforts to combat crime in the Tshwane District.
The operation, led by Tshwane District Commissioner Major-General Samuel Thine on Saturday, 11 July, brought together the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Department of Home Affairs, Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), Gauteng Traffic Police and Community Policing Forums (CPFs).
Among those arrested were 247 wanted suspects linked to serious and violent crimes, including two for murder, nine for attempted murder, 94 for assault-related offences and two for rape.
Authorities also conducted immigration and business compliance inspections, during which 67 undocumented foreign nationals were detained and handed over to immigration officials for further processing. Three people were arrested and fined R10,000 each for harbouring undocumented foreign nationals, while another three were arrested for employing illegal immigrants.
The operation further targeted non-compliant businesses, with 16 liquor outlets inspected and five closed for failing to comply with liquor legislation. Police also visited 12 spaza shops and inspected a second-hand goods dealer, who was found to be compliant with the Second-Hand Goods Act.
Crime prevention patrols led to the arrest of 12 suspects for drug possession and dealing. Officers also confiscated 17 zip-lock bags containing suspected narcotics and 90 bottles of 420ml liquor.
Major-General Thine praised all agencies involved for their coordinated efforts, “I commend all participating members and stakeholders for their dedication, commitment and professionalism.”
He added, “Continued collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community structures remains essential in the fight against crime and in ensuring safer communities throughout the Tshwane District.”
