The Border Management Authority (BMA) has intercepted a group of 25 undocumented migrants attempting to enter South Africa illegally through the Beitbridge area.
“Today, 05 January 2026, the Commissioner of @TheBMA_SA, led by Beitbridge Port of Entry (PoE) Port Commander Ntakuseni Lambani, is on the ground in the bushes. With the assistance of the technology deployed, 25 illegal migrants were trying to get into South Africa illegally through the bushes,” said the BMA.
It is further said that Officials were deployed on the ground in the bush surrounding the port of entry as part of intensified border patrols.
The authority said the interception was made possible through the use of advanced surveillance and monitoring technology, which helped track and locate the group before they could cross into the country undetected.
In a follow-up update, the BMA confirmed that two male suspects were detained and handed over to the Musina Police Station. The suspects are facing charges related to aiding and abetting illegal entry into South Africa. Their arrest follows ongoing operations targeting human smuggling networks operating around the Beitbridge border area.
The BMA reiterated its commitment to strengthening border security and cracking down on illegal crossings, particularly at identified hotspot areas along South Africa’s borders. Authorities say operations will continue as part of broader efforts to maintain national security and uphold immigration laws.
