Taxi industry urged to end intimidation of e-hailing operators

Gauteng Roads and Transport MEC, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to protecting all legal modes of public transport, saying intimidation and bullying of e-hailing operators will not be tolerated.

The MEC said commuters have the right to choose their preferred mode of transport, and that there is nothing wrong with using e-hailing services. She pointed out that even the grandchildren of taxi drivers use e-hailing platforms, underscoring that the service has become part of everyday life.

Diale-Tlabela said the provincial government is engaging with taxi associations and e-hailing operators to encourage peaceful co-existence and resolve ongoing tensions. She added that all transport operators must be allowed to operate freely within the law, without fear of violence or intimidation.
