More than 150 suspects have been arrested during a joint law enforcement operation targeting illegal mining activities at Losberg Kloof Mine in Westonaria.
The operation, known as Operation Prosper, was conducted on Tuesday by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng, in partnership with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and Sibanye Protection Services.
According to police, the operation is aimed at combating illegal mining and transnational crime in the area. Authorities say the arrests were made for various illegal mining-related offences.
Police added that Operation Prosper forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement partnerships and improve safety in communities affected by illegal mining.
