South Africa and Zimbabwe are set to strengthen their long-standing relationship as President Cyril Ramaphosa hosts Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Pretoria on Friday, 21 August 2026.
The two leaders will meet for the Fourth Session of the South Africa–Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission, a key platform established in 2015 to drive cooperation between the neighbouring countries.
With more than 33 agreements and memoranda of understanding already signed between South Africa and Zimbabwe, Friday’s meeting is expected to take the partnership a step further.
The Presidents will review progress on existing commitments while looking at new opportunities to boost trade and investment, infrastructure development and economic growth.
The talks come as both countries seek to strengthen cooperation in areas that can contribute to shared development and economic opportunities for their citizens.
The meeting is also expected to produce concrete outcomes, with several new agreements and memoranda of understanding set to be signed in strategic areas.
The Heads of State meeting will be preceded by a Ministerial Meeting on Thursday, 20 August, where ministers will finalise matters for consideration by the two Presidents. This follows the Senior Officials Meeting held on Tuesday, 18 August.
The Fourth Session of the Bi-National Commission will take place from 08h00 on Friday at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation’s OR Tambo Building in Pretoria.
