Several streets in Pretoria Central will be affected on Friday, 21 August 2026, as the Kool 2B South African Foundation hosts an awareness march against gender-based violence (GBV).
The march is aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence and encouraging communities to stand together in the fight against violence.
Participants will gather at Christian Progressive College in Pretoria Central from 9am before embarking on the march around the surrounding streets. The march will then return to Christian Progressive College, where participants are expected to disperse by 1pm.
The route will start at the gathering point before participants join Johannes Ramokhoase Street, turn left onto Paul Kruger Street, then turn left onto Madiba Street. They will then turn onto Johannes Ramokhoase Street again and continue towards Christian Progressive College.
The streets expected to be affected include Johannes Ramokhoase Street, Thabo Sehume Street, Paul Kruger Street, Madiba Street and Lilian Ngoyi Street.
The awareness march will use the streets of Pretoria Central as a platform to draw attention to the continued fight against GBV and to encourage communities to speak out against violence.
Tshwane Metro Police Department and South African Police Service officers will be deployed to monitor the march and the affected streets.
Motorists travelling through the area are urged to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes, including Nana Sita Street, Pretorius Street, Francis Baard Street, Eskia Mphahlele Drive and Boom Street.
The march is expected to continue until around 1pm, when participants will disperse at Christian Progressive College.
Authorities are advising motorists and other road users to exercise caution and expect possible delays while the march is underway.
