The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has intensified by-law enforcement operations across the City of Tshwane, resulting in the demolition of illegal structures, the closure of non-compliant businesses and the arrest of undocumented foreign nationals.
In Mamelodi, TMPD and other City of Tshwane stakeholders conducted a Rea Spana operation on Tuesday, 18 August 2026. The operation saw 17 illegally constructed structures demolished, as authorities moved to clamp down on unlawful land occupation.
The operation forms part of the City’s broader efforts to enforce municipal by-laws and address illegal occupation and construction. The City has previously indicated that Re A Spana operations are aimed at strengthening by-law enforcement and improving safety and compliance in communities.
On the same day, TMPD regional policing members conducted business compliance inspections in Eersterust. Several businesses were inspected, with five supermarkets closed for non-compliance.
The enforcement drive continued on Wednesday, 19 August, when TMPD members conducted targeted by-law operations in Sinoville and Cullinan. A total of 25 undocumented foreign nationals were arrested — 19 in Sinoville and six in Cullinan.
According to TMPD, the individuals were unable to produce valid documentation and were taken into custody for further processing by the Department of Home Affairs. The arrests follow similar operations across Tshwane, with TMPD reporting the arrest of 48 undocumented foreign nationals in Pretoria North, Centurion, Sinoville and Cullinan on 12 August.
The latest operations highlight the metro police department’s continued focus on enforcing municipal by-laws, ensuring business compliance, addressing unlawful land occupation and verifying immigration documentation.
TMPD says it will continue conducting strict, high-visibility operations across Tshwane, urging business owners and residents to comply with statutory requirements and cooperate with law enforcement authorities.
