Police in Thohoyandou are investigating a murder case after the body of a 40-year-old woman was discovered in a pit toilet at her home in Ha-Lambani Mahagala, Limpopo.
According to a statement issued by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo, the gruesome discovery was made on Saturday, 19 July 2026, at around 11:40.
The woman’s body was found inside the pit toilet, covered with a blanket.
Family members alerted the community after the discovery, and police officers together with Emergency Medical Services personnel were called to the scene.
The body was later retrieved from the pit toilet.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had sustained injuries to the face and head,” police said.
Investigators subsequently visited the home of a suspect, but he was not found.
A manhunt has now been launched as police continue efforts to trace and apprehend him.
A murder case has been opened, and detectives are appealing to members of the public who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
