The City of Tshwane has handed over 290 title deeds to rightful beneficiaries in New Eersterus, Hammanskraal, marking another step in its efforts to provide residents with legal ownership of their homes.
The title deed handover took place at Rapelego Primary School on Monday and was led by Tshwane Deputy Executive Mayor, Cllr Eugene Modise, alongside MMC for Housing and Human Settlements, Alderman Aaron Maluleka.
A title deed is a legal document that confirms ownership of a property, enabling homeowners to fully own, sell, transfer or use their homes as collateral when applying for finance.
Speaking during the handover, Maluleka encouraged beneficiaries who were unable to collect their title deeds on the day not to panic.
“Residents who couldn’t collect their title deed today are encouraged to visit the City of Tshwane Human Settlements offices at the Temba Urban Council to collect your title deed,” he said.
Maluleka also highlighted the city’s commitment to helping residents secure ownership of their homes, saying the municipality has written off rental debt amounting to R600 million to assist qualifying beneficiaries in obtaining their title deeds.
The City of Tshwane says the programme forms part of its broader efforts to restore dignity, promote homeownership and provide security of tenure to residents who have waited years to become the lawful owners of their properties.
