The City of Tshwane has shut down the Themba Water Treatment Plant following an 11 kV feeder cable fault, leading to a water supply interruption in parts of Hammanskraal.
In a media alert issued on Wednesday, 01 October 2026, the City said its Water and Sanitation Business Unit was compelled to halt operations during the repair period as the plant uses electricity to pump water.
A contractor has been dispatched on-site to carry out fault finding, cable termination and to clean the carbon in the mini-substation.
The following areas will experience a water supply interruption:
- Sekampaneng
- Renstown
- Hammanskraal West
- Suurman
- Units 5 and 7
- Kanana
The City has sincerely apologised for the disruption and appealed to residents to use water sparingly during this time.
Residents are encouraged to conserve water by not watering gardens, not washing cars, not cleaning driveways or pavements using hosepipes, not filling swimming pools, flushing toilets only when necessary, closing running taps while brushing teeth and reducing daily water usage as much as possible.
The City said it appreciates consumers’ patience and understanding as it works to resolve the matter urgently.
