Registered voters who are unable to cast their ballots at their voting stations on Election Day can apply for a special vote, allowing them to vote on a predetermined day set out in the election timetable.
According to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), special votes are available to registered voters who cannot travel to their voting stations because they are physically infirm, have a disability or are pregnant.
Voters who are unable to vote at their voting stations on Election Day may also apply for a special vote.
To qualify, applicants must be South African citizens, registered voters and at least 18 years old on Election Day.
The special vote process allows eligible voters to exercise their right to vote despite circumstances that may prevent them from reaching their voting station on Election Day. Applicants must, however, apply within the period specified by the IEC election timetable.
Voters who believe they may qualify for a special vote are encouraged to check the IEC’s official election timetable and application requirements to ensure that they apply within the prescribed period.
