The Cataract Week Surgical Marathon at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital is already making a difference, with 42 patients having undergone cataract surgery since the initiative began on Monday.
Now on its third day, the programme has treated 17 male and 25 female patients, with another 28 patients booked for surgery today.
The dedicated medical teams are working around the clock to restore patients’ vision and improve their quality of life. The surgical marathon will continue until Friday, with the hospital targeting more than 10 cataract operations per day for both male and female patients.
The initiative highlights the importance of accessible eye care, giving patients suffering from cataracts an opportunity to regain clearer vision and get back to their daily lives.
