The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that a Malawian national has died while being transported from the Musina Repatriation Centre to the Beitbridge Border Post in Limpopo.
According to the department, the undocumented immigrant had already been processed for deportation and was travelling on a bus to the border on Sunday night when the incident occurred.
Initial reports indicate that the Malawian national complained of feeling unwell before collapsing on the bus. However, Home Affairs says the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed, and investigations are underway.
The department added that undocumented foreign nationals are processed at the Musina Repatriation Centre before being repatriated to their respective countries.
The incident comes as South Africa continues to intensify operations targeting undocumented immigrants, with law enforcement agencies increasing deportation efforts across the country.
