KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed that a suspect has been placed under arrest in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that cut short the life of the beloved medical professional over the weekend.
Dr Mahlaba, a respected figure in the local healthcare fraternity, was out for his routine Saturday morning jog when tragedy struck. According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police reports, the doctor was struck with devastating force by a motor vehicle along one of Newcastle’s suburban roads. The driver of the vehicle did not stop to render assistance or call for emergency services, instead fleeing the scene and leaving the critically injured physician lying on the roadside.
