The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) arrested 71 individuals during targeted weekend road safety operations conducted across Sinoville, Akasia, Pretoria Central, Mamelodi, Cullinan and Hammanskraal between Friday and Monday, 3 August 2026.
The operations focused on improving road safety, enforcing vehicle and driver compliance, and preventing avoidable crashes and road fatalities. Of the total arrests, 66 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while one man was arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs during a stop-and-search operation.
The biggest breakthrough came in Sinoville, where Regional Policing members arrested 21 drunk drivers during intensified enforcement efforts. An additional four individuals were arrested for public drinking.
TMPD Chief of Police, Commissioner YCR Faro, praised officers for their commitment throughout the operations.
“The Chief of Police, Commissioner YCR Faro, commends the hard work and dedication of members involved in operations and also sends a stern warning to those who disregard the law by continuing to drive under the influence of alcohol that their behaviour will not be tolerated in Tshwane.”
The metro police have reiterated that road safety operations will continue across Tshwane as authorities intensify efforts to remove impaired drivers from the roads and improve public safety.
