The City of Tshwane has issued a strong warning to residents and businesses with illegal water connections, saying offenders could face severe financial penalties, criminal prosecution, and immediate disconnection from the municipal water network.
According to the City, fines for illegal water connections are based on the diameter of the illegally connected pipe and range from R15 000 to R500 000. Individuals and households may be fined up to R200 000, while businesses could face penalties of up to R10 million.
In addition to financial penalties, illegal connections may result in immediate disconnection from the water supply and criminal charges.
The City is encouraging residents who are illegally connected to come forward and legalise their water connections before enforcement action is taken.
