Residents across large parts of Tshwane may experience low water pressure or intermittent water supply after a burst on Rand Water’s B4 pipeline affected the Palmiet Booster Pumping Station, which supplies several of the city’s reservoirs.
According to a media alert issued by the City of Tshwane on Thursday, 6 August 2026, the municipality was informed by Rand Water that the pipeline burst was discovered following extensive investigations prompted by trips at the Zuikerbosch Treatment Plant earlier in the day. The incident has affected pumping at the Palmiet System, resulting in reduced water supply to several reservoirs across the metro.
“The water utility has now reduced pumping at the Palmiet System to 70% until repairs are completed. Rand Water’s technicians are currently busy with the isolation of the B4 pipeline,” the City said.
The municipality further stated that the estimated time to complete repairs will only be communicated once technicians have established the full extent of the work required.
The disruption is expected to affect numerous reservoirs and meters across Tshwane, including those supplying Akasia, Ga-Rankuwa, Soshanguve, Mabopane, Winterveld, Rosslyn, Doringkloof, Klipfontein, Atteridgeville, Laudium, Centurion, Capital Park and surrounding areas. Communities supplied by these systems may experience low water pressure or intermittent water outages while repair work continues.
Residents have been urged to use water sparingly until normal pumping operations are restored. The City of Tshwane said it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available from Rand Water regarding the progress of repairs and the expected restoration of water supply.
