The South African Police Service (SAPS) is set to intensify its presence in Kempton Park and surrounding areas following the discovery of another woman’s body.
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia said police would significantly increase visibility in the area through Operation Shanela. He said a multidisciplinary team of investigators and other professionals had also been established to investigate the cases.
The latest discovery brings the number of women’s bodies found in the Kempton Park area to eight.
Cachalia said residents would see an increased police presence in the coming weeks as law enforcement agencies mobilise additional resources. He also said the area would be placed under a police “lockdown” as part of efforts to respond to the killings.
The developments have heightened concern over the safety of women in the area, as investigations into the deaths continue.
