The head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), Advocate Andrea Johnson, faced tough questioning at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry over inconsistencies between her testimony before the Commission and Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee.
The Commission heard that Johnson had previously stated she received a referral letter from the Office of the Minister of Police. However, during her earlier appearance before the Ad Hoc Committee, she indicated that she was unaware that Member of Parliament, Fadiel Adams had lodged a complaint with the Minister’s office.
When questioned about the contradiction, Johnson explained that she did not remember receiving the referral from the Minister’s office when she testified before Parliament. The evidence leader challenged her explanation, raising concerns that her earlier testimony may have created a misleading impression for the Ad Hoc Committee.
The Commission continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the handling of the complaint and the apparent inconsistencies in Johnson’s evidence, as the inquiry seeks to establish accountability and strengthen public confidence in South Africa’s criminal justice institutions.
