Parents and guardians in Gauteng are being encouraged to prepare the necessary documentation ahead of the opening of the 2027 online admissions process for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners.
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has announced that applications for placement at public schools will open on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, and close on Friday, 4 September 2026. Parents are urged to apply within the application window to improve their chances of securing placement at their preferred schools.
Applications must be submitted online through the GDE admissions portal at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.
The department has advised parents to ensure they have all the required supporting documents ready before the application period begins. These include the parent or guardian’s identity document, passport, refugee permit, asylum seeker permit, permanent residence permit or study permit, the child’s South African birth certificate, proof of home address, proof of work address, the learner’s latest school report where applicable, and the child’s clinic, vaccination and immunisation card.
The GDE has reminded parents that preparing these documents in advance will help ensure a smoother application process and reduce delays in the placement of learners.
The department is encouraging all parents and guardians to “play your part” by applying online and submitting their applications before the closing date of 4 September 2026.
