The City of Tshwane has issued a call for expressions of interest from landowners who have suitable land available for the development of new burial grounds. The initiative forms part of the City’s efforts to ensure there is sufficient burial space to meet the needs of its growing population.
The City is inviting landowners with land parcels that are suitable and ready for immediate use as cemeteries to submit expressions of interest. The land must be at least 20 hectares in size, comply with all environmental, health and land use regulations, and be available for purchase by the City.
To qualify, the land must be located entirely within the boundaries of the City of Tshwane. Landowners must provide proof of legal ownership and demonstrate that they have the authority to sell the property. In addition, the land must be free from legal disputes, encumbrances and environmental constraints.
Applicants are also required to submit relevant environmental, health and zoning approvals or certificates. They must further provide evidence that the land has access to essential services such as water, roads and electricity, or demonstrate that these services can reasonably be connected.
The City said the expression of interest process will help identify suitable land that can be acquired to expand burial facilities and ensure communities continue to have access to dignified burial services.
