Former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Andrea Johnson is set to be summoned back to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry to respond to fresh allegations that emerged during the testimony of State Advocate Drushantha Ramsamy.
Johnson concluded her evidence before the commission on Wednesday after six days of intense questioning. However, proceedings took a new turn on Thursday when Ramsamy, who is currently on the witness stand, made statements that reportedly seriously implicate the former IDAC head.
The commission’s evidence leaders have indicated that Johnson will be served with a Rule 3 notice, giving her an opportunity to return before the commission and respond to the new allegations raised during Ramsamy’s testimony.
A Rule 3 notice is issued when evidence presented before a commission may adversely affect a person’s reputation or interests, ensuring they are afforded a fair opportunity to answer the claims made against them.
The Madlanga Commission continues to hear evidence into allegations of corruption and interference within South Africa’s criminal justice system, with Ramsamy’s testimony expected to continue. At this stage, the allegations against Johnson remain untested, and she will have the opportunity to present her response when she returns before the commission.
