Build One South Africa (BOSA), the political party founded by former Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane, has been dealt a significant blow following the expulsion of Ayanda Allie, its sole representative in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. The party confirmed on Thursday that Allie’s membership was terminated effective immediately, marking the culmination of an internal disciplinary process that was first initiated in July 2025.
The disciplinary proceedings against Allie were conducted behind closed doors, and the party has remained tight-lipped about the specific charges that led to her ousting. In a brief statement, BOSA spokesperson Sibusiso Mthembu confirmed that all internal processes were followed rigorously and that Allie was afforded ample opportunity to present her case. “The party’s disciplinary committee reached a conclusion after careful consideration of the evidence, and the decision to expel Comrade Allie was taken in the best interests of the organisation and its constitutional values,” Mthembu said. He declined to elaborate further, citing confidentiality.
Allie’s expulsion leaves BOSA without any representation in the Gauteng legislature, a significant setback for a party that has been striving to establish a foothold in the country’s most economically significant province. Political analysts view this development as a major test of BOSA’s internal cohesion and its ability to retain talent amid growing competition from both established parties and newer entrants like Rise Mzansi.
Allie has yet to comment publicly on her expulsion, but sources close to her have indicated that she may challenge the decision in court. Meanwhile, the party faces the immediate challenge of rebuilding its provincial presence and reassuring voters that it remains a credible alternative in Gauteng, just months ahead of the 2027 local government elections.
