Two foreign nationals have been arrested by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) for allegedly tampering with essential infrastructure in Lindo Park, Mamelodi.
The arrests were made on Friday, 28 August 2026, during a routine patrol after private security personnel alerted TMPD officers to a group of African men allegedly digging up cables along Koedoespoort Road, east of Pretoria.
TMPD regional policing members, together with private security officers, responded to the scene and pursued the suspects before arresting two of them.
According to the TMPD, the suspects, identified as Zimbabwean and Mozambican nationals, were found in possession of Transnet cables and shovels allegedly used in the commission of the offence.
The two suspects have been detained and are expected to face charges relating to tampering with essential infrastructure.
The latest arrests form part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle cable theft and damage to critical infrastructure in Tshwane. Similar operations have previously resulted in arrests linked to the theft and possession of copper cables.
TMPD says it remains committed to protecting essential infrastructure and ensuring the safety of communities through visible and vigilant policing.
