Ramaphosa To Address South Africa Tonight On GBVF And Ekurhuleni Women’s Murders

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to address the nation tonight, Tuesday, 29 September 2026, on government’s response to gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

The Presidency confirmed that the address will take place at 19h00, with the President expected to outline steps being taken by government to confront GBVF.

Ramaphosa is also expected to provide an update on investigations into the murders of women in and around Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. The killings have drawn national attention and renewed concerns about the safety of women in the province.

The President previously said that “no stone will be left unturned” in efforts to solve the killings of women in and around Kempton Park. The Presidency has also indicated that the address will focus on the steps government is taking to confront GBVF.

The address comes days after Ramaphosa spoke on National Heritage Day about the need to confront violence against women. He said women should be able to walk the streets of South Africa without fear and confirmed that he would address the nation on government’s response to GBV and the Ekurhuleni investigations.
