Alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has denied having any relationship with suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Feroz Khan.
Matlala is appearing before the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria, where he is being questioned about his alleged connections to senior police officials and the broader issues surrounding police corruption and criminal networks.
During his testimony, Matlala rejected claims linking him to the three officials, as the commission continues to investigate allegations of improper relationships between individuals accused of operating within the criminal underworld and members of the police service.
The businessman was also questioned about the controversial Tshwane Medicare24 tender. However, he declined to respond to questions relating to the matter, citing the fact that the case is currently sub judice.
His appearance before the commission forms part of ongoing efforts to establish the extent of alleged links between criminal figures, politically connected individuals and senior members of law enforcement.
The Madlanga Commission is expected to continue probing Matlala’s dealings and relationships as it seeks to establish whether such connections may have influenced policing, procurement processes or the broader fight against organised crime.
