Alleged cartel member Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is set to return to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Monday morning at 9:30.
Matlala was initially scheduled to appear before the commission on 1 September, but his appearance has been brought forward to Monday and Tuesday. He is at the centre of allegations raised by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, which contributed to the establishment of the commission.
Matlala faces allegations including benefiting from a multimillion-rand South African Police Service medical contract, allegedly funding Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s political ambitions and having links with senior police officials. The commission is investigating allegations of criminality, corruption and political interference within the criminal justice system.
