City of Tshwane cracks down on illicit trade

A multi-agency operation targeting illicit trade is continuing today in the City of Tshwane, following a major enforcement drive that began yesterday.

The operation involves the Tshwane Metro Police Department, South African Police Service, Border Management Authority, Department of Agriculture and Gauteng Consumer Affairs, among other law-enforcement and regulatory agencies.

Authorities have already seized nearly R3 million worth of illicit goods during the operation.

Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya says the crackdown is aimed at removing illegal and fraudulent products from the market, warning that some of these products could pose serious health risks to residents.

The operation is continuing today as authorities inspect businesses and target the illegal trade of goods across the City of Tshwane.
