Social Development Minister Dina Pule says she is concerned about the large number of SASSA beneficiaries facing long queues at offices in Cape Town.
Pule made the remarks during an oversight visit to SASSA offices in Khayelitsha and Bellville on Thursday, where she engaged with officials and beneficiaries about challenges affecting service delivery.
The visit comes as thousands of beneficiaries in the Northern Cape missed their social grant payments after failing to complete the required annual grant review process.
SASSA says more than 7 000 beneficiaries had their payments withheld due to compliance issues. Affected beneficiaries have been urged to update their details and complete the review process to ensure they continue receiving their grants.
The Minister says the large numbers at SASSA offices highlight the growing demand for social assistance in South Africa.
