Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has appointed MEC for Social Development Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko as Acting Premier while he takes time to recover from illness.
Nkomo-Ralehoko will serve as Acting Premier from Thursday, 13 August until Wednesday, 19 August 2026, in accordance with Section 131(1)(a) and Section 13 of the Constitution.
During this period, she will assume the duties, authority and responsibilities of the Office of the Premier, including overseeing provincial executive functions, attending to urgent matters of state and ensuring that government services continue without interruption.
The Gauteng Provincial Government says the temporary appointment will also allow Lesufi, who is currently on sick leave, an opportunity to recover fully.
