Parents and guardians applying for Grade 1 and Grade 8 placement in Gauteng schools for the 2027 academic year are being urged to ensure they have all the required documents ready before submitting their applications.
The Gauteng Department of Education has outlined the documents needed for the online admissions process, including a parent or guardian’s identification, the learner’s birth certificate or passport, proof of home address and proof of work address.
Grade 8 applicants must also provide their most recent Grade 7 school report, while Grade 1 applicants are required to submit a clinic card or immunisation report.
The department says proof of home address is particularly important, as placement is confirmed based on whether a school could verify the address provided by the applicant.
Homeowners can submit a municipal account not older than three months, bearing the applicant parent’s name and full residential address. Tenants or renters can provide a recent municipal account in the landlord’s name, together with certified supporting documents such as the landlord’s ID, a lease agreement signed by both parties, a recent rental payment slip or a bank statement showing the full physical residential address.
Parents whose children live in a family home where the municipal account is in the parent’s name will need to provide the parent’s ID as well as a recent statement showing the same address.
The department has also warned parents against submitting fraudulent documents. It says affidavits and bank statements will not be accepted as proof of home address, while fraudulent proof of address could result in an application being declared invalid and the learner receiving no placement.
Parents are encouraged to prepare and certify their documents before applying online to avoid delays or complications during the admissions process.
Applications can be submitted through the Gauteng Department of Education’s online admissions system at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.
